Apologies – No excuses

I can’t believe how long it’s been since I last even looked at this, let alone post anything. To be honest I almost forgot about it.

I’ve got a draft that’s almost complete regarding Ubuntu, so I’ll get into that soon enough.

Cheers.

Skype now offers unlimited calls in selected areas

For all you skype users out there you may want to go check out Skype’s new deal.

In short, if you’re in one of their selected countries – you can pay a premium every month and receive unlimited land line calls, any time of the day.

Enjoy.

Sad Story

Well, last night I had a little problem.

Now, on my PC I have always had 2 hard disks, one running XP, the other running vista. I kept all my data safely on the XP drive, and only copied essentials over to Vista (Pictures, Music) as a backup.

Vista got full of unwanted software, driver problems and etc. so I decided to reinstall it. Now the first time I did this, I did it successfully until Internet Explorer started playing up and running multiple processes when not even open. Suspecting this to be a virus/malware, I attempted to once again reinstall Vista (it was still a clean build, I hadn’t put any time into it). This is where it went wrong.

Inside the Vista installation I was prompted to select a hard disk on which to install it. Now, both the hard disks in my machine are identical (as in, they are both Maxtor 300GB…). Out of confusion, I deleted the partition on my XP drive. This therefore meant I had effectively wiped all my data.

Long story short, it’s yet to be recovered although it should be possible. But I spent over 6 hours attempting to recover it.

And I’m now running Linux – Ubuntu, lets see how it goes. I’ll write my opinions soon.

Lack of Posts

Greatest apologies for the lack of posts recently. School work has got me tied up until the end of next week, expect some updates then.

Facebook

Most people will have heard of Facebook or might already be using it. For those who haven’t it’s an online profile similar to Myspace or Bebo with some major advantages over the others.

  • Simple design
  • Easy way to get in touch with old friends
  • Applications and games

Its elegant and simple design make it much more to the point than Myspace or Bebo. It’s more sophisticated and mature, easier to navigate.

I highly recommend giving it a go, you may connect with some long lost mates or just to keep in touch with current friends.

The Carrot Bomb

Although this is one of the safest bombs, it is still not recommended that you participate in creating it without taking safety precautions. Neither I, or any of the other Useful Box authors are liable for any damage you create with this bomb.

The Carrot Bomb.

A brand new addition to my collection of sparkler bomb recipes. Special thanks to Nick, John, Tim and Tom Weatherall.

If you haven’t heard of sparkler bombs, here is the basic rundown. We all
know that sparklers are flammable but they only spray sparks. Well,
when all bunched up together or crushed they exponentially increase in
power.

Below we can see the latest of our bombs, named the carrot.

Here’s what you need:

  • About 600 sparklers
  • A heap of duct tape
  • Patience
  • Lighter

The Process

  1. Remove all cardboard packaging (If the sparklers come bunched in thin plastic, leave that on).
  2. Place all sparklers (except about 5) in your hand and grip the sparkler-free ends tightly.
  3. Wrap up the entire thing with duct tape, focusing on the middle and closer to the top.
  4. Poke a couple of the leftover sparklers through the top as a fuse.

You’re done!

Dig a small hole in a VERY OPEN area and put the Carrot Bomb in nice and tight.

Light and run.

Couple of notes:

  • Don’t try this with too many sparklers, it gets wider and just shoots out sideways.
  • You will need a fair bit of water to put it out before you can pick it up,
especially if you need a quick escape from a public area.

Here’s a few being prepped for wrapping:

News Anchor Freaks Out

While we’re taking a short break from posting, try to grab a few laughs from this video.

Down and Out

Been very sick for the last few days, will get back to updating the site by next week.

Cheers.
